Gaelscoil Laighean is a primary co-educational school whose main aim is to fully educate the child through the medium of Irish. The school is under the patronage of An Foras Pátrúnachta na Scoileanna Lán-Ghaeilge, the umbrella managerial structure for all-Irish schools, and functions in accordance with the rules of the Department of Education and Skills.

A child centred curriculum is in place which recognises the value and uniqueness of each child and where everyone is encouraged to develop to their full potential. We strive to provide a peaceful, caring environment in which all aspects of the pupil: intellectual, physical, cultural, social and emotional development are nurtured. We encourage the children to participate in every aspect of our Irish culture — language, games, music, dance and traditions. Parental participation and support is an important aspect of school life.

Gaelscoil Laighean is a developing school, this means each year the school adds a new class , up to 6th class. We currenlty have Junior Infants up to 4th class. The school day commences at 8:30am and the Naíonáin (infant classes) finish at 1:10pm except for the first fortnight only when Junior Infants finish ag 11:30am and Rang 1 - Rang 4 finish at 2.10pm.
